The Green Black Foot Mystery Snail (Pomacea bridgesii) is a fascinating and attractive freshwater snail, popular for its algae-eating abilities and ease of care. This particular variety has a shell that ranges from shades of green to brown, while its body, or ”foot,” is black, creating a striking contrast. Mystery snails are known for their peaceful nature, making them an excellent addition to community tanks.

These snails are relatively small when young but can grow to about 5 cm as adults. They are great at cleaning up leftover food, algae, and plant debris, helping maintain water quality. Mystery snails are also known for their fun and curious behavior, often seen exploring the tank, climbing plants, or gliding across the glass.

Mystery snails need a well-maintained aquarium with stable water conditions. They are quite hardy but sensitive to poor water quality, especially to copper-based medications. They are great for planted tanks as they do not harm live plants but instead focus on eating decaying plant matter and algae.

Occasionally, you may observe mystery snails ascending to the tank’s surface, only to release and free-fall back to the bottom. Sometimes, they detach a portion of their foot, allowing them to swiftly slide down the glass.
